Who is the founder of HomeBid?
Neville Berkowitz (65) started his property career in 1973 and rose to Group Investment Manager of a National Property Development and Investment Group at the age of 22. He left in 1977 to start his own consulting business, Neville Berkowitz and Associates, Consulting Property Economists, which celebrated its 40th anniversary in July 2017.
Neville was a pioneer of property economics in South Africa and launched The Property Economist in 1980 where he had over 1000 of South Africa's main players as consulting clients receiving regular editions of this investment journal monthly. Due to the pressure from investment and development consulting work, Neville ceased writing and publishing The Property Economist in 1995.
In 1991 Neville was appointed Property Advisor to Transnet Pension Fund, then the country's third largest pension fund, and instructed to invest multi-billion Rands in creating a blue-chip property portfolio for the Fund.
In 1992/3, anticipating the partial relaxation of Exchange Control regulations with the new Democratic South Africa on the horizon, and with it institutional investment funds seeking a home offshore, Neville set up Neville Berkowitz Global Advisors with Research-based Advisors in 17 countries on 5 continents.
In 1994 the need for secure residential and commercial parks become apparent and a Development Division of the business was formed and headed up by Rory Sheahan. In addition, a portfolio of petrol station was developed. These secure residential and commercial estates have proved to be winners and property owners are enjoying secure living and working conditions with meaningful asset price increases too.
In 2014 Neville saw the need for a low commission estate agency in South Africa and after extensive research, he created HomeBid (Pty)Ltd in April 2015.He expects that during 2020- 2025 HomeBid will be the largest estate agency in South Africa breaking the stranglehold of the traditional high commission estate agencies.
Neville's passion is for mentorship and he also has a business, CareerManagementServices.co.za, and School-based Step Up Mentoring, where older pupils mentor younger ones and schools receive this mentorship programme at no cost.Raymond Myburgh heads up this business.
Neville is a spiritual person and has written 17 free- e-books found on PersonalEmpowerment.co and Guidespeak.com.His Facebook page- Path to Personal Empowerment- has over 900 000 Followers growing at some 1500 a day.
Neville has very recently retired to live in Mauritius from where he will manage his various business interests and establish a free Spirit Wellness Centre for the 1.2 million Mauritians and the over 1 million tourists annually.
Neville is proud to have founded HomeBid and left it in the capable hands of Cavan Sheahan as General Manager and Mike Mills as the Principal of the Estate Agency.
